Terms of Service

Last updated 4 October 2026.

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Ahnaf Tiar Valexi ("we", "us") governing your use of Relnotely (the "service"). By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you are agreeing on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind it.

2. Your account

You must give accurate registration details and keep your password secure. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe it has been accessed without your permission.

3. Subscription, trial and payment

  • The service is offered on a single plan at $19 per month.
  • Creating an account and writing drafts is free and needs no payment card. Publishing, the widget, custom domains, the feedback board and the roadmap require a subscription.
  • Your first subscription begins with a 7-day free trial. A valid payment card is required to begin it. The trial is offered once per account: a subscription started after an earlier one has ended has no trial, and your card is charged when it starts.
  • No charge is made during the trial. When it ends, the subscription begins automatically and your card is charged, then charged each month until cancelled.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. By subscribing you also accept Stripe's terms.
  • The price shown is the full amount charged: we do not currently add sales tax, VAT or GST. If that changes, tax will be shown at checkout before you pay, and existing subscribers will be told by email before it is first added to their bill.
  • We may change subscription pricing at any time. Existing subscribers are given at least 30 days' notice by email before any change takes effect on their account, and a change is never retroactive — time you have already paid for stays at the price you paid for it. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the new price.

4. Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel at any time from the billing portal. Cancelling during the trial means you are never charged. Cancelling afterwards stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the period already paid for. We do not give partial refunds for unused time, except where the law requires it.

If a subscription lapses, your published changelog stays online: its pages, its entries and its feed remain readable at their existing addresses, including your own domain, for up to one year from the date it lapsed, so that links you have shared do not break. After that year they may be taken offline. What stops is writing: creating, editing and publishing entries, and with them any email to your subscribers, until you subscribe again. The embeddable widget also stops showing entries while a subscription is lapsed. Your subscriber list is kept, and nobody on it is emailed. An account that has never subscribed may write and preview drafts without charge for up to one year from the date it was created.

5. Acceptable use

You may not use the service to:

  • publish unlawful, infringing, defamatory or deliberately misleading content;
  • send unsolicited bulk email, or add to a subscriber list any address whose owner did not ask to be on it — see "Email to your subscribers" below;
  • use the email addresses of people who signed in to your feedback board for anything other than the board itself, unless they have separately agreed to it;
  • impersonate another person or organisation;
  • distribute malware, or attempt to breach, probe or overload the service or its infrastructure;
  • circumvent rate limits, billing, or access controls;
  • resell the service, or provide it to others as a service of your own, without our written agreement. Publishing your own changelog under your own name and on your own domain is what the service is for.

Email to your subscribers

The emails your subscribers receive are yours: they are sent in your name, to people on your list. They leave from a sending address of ours that every customer's email shares, so what one customer sends affects the delivery of everyone's. To keep that mail out of spam folders, for you and for every other customer:

  • Every address on a subscriber list must belong to someone who asked to be on it. Readers join through your changelog's subscribe form and confirm their address by email before anything else is sent to them.
  • You may not use the service with lists you have bought, rented, scraped, harvested or otherwise obtained without the consent of the people on them, and you may not add addresses to your list on anyone's behalf.
  • Entries you import from elsewhere are history and are never emailed to anyone. Only an entry you publish through the service, as new, is sent to your subscribers.
  • The name your emails are sent under must be your own: the name of your product or your company, and not one that could be taken for anybody else's. A reply-to address must be an inbox you are entitled to use and that someone reads; it is used only after it has been confirmed from that inbox.
  • You are responsible for the postal address and the privacy policy link shown in the footer of your emails being accurate and current, and for that privacy policy describing your subscriber list truthfully. Commercial and promotional email in several jurisdictions — among them the United States, Canada and Australia — must carry a valid physical postal address and a working way to unsubscribe. That is why the service will not send your emails until both are set, and why every email carries an unsubscribe link that works on the first click; it is not a preference of ours.

6. Fair use

There are no artificial caps on entries, drafts, page views, ideas or voters. We do, however, reserve the right to contact accounts whose usage is significantly and consistently outside normal patterns.

To protect the delivery of every customer's email, each account has generous limits on the number of emails it sends to subscribers each month and on the number of subscribers it has. They are not part of any plan and there is nothing to upgrade to: if you reach one, write to us and we will talk about raising it. Sending to subscribers is also suspended automatically if too many of your emails are marked as spam or bounce from addresses that do not exist, and is resumed by us once we have looked at it with you.

7. Your content

You keep all rights to what you write. You grant us only the licence needed to operate the service: to store your content, and to display and distribute the parts you choose to publish through your changelog page, feedback board, roadmap, feed and widget. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to backups being cycled out in the ordinary course.

You are responsible for the content you publish and for having the right to publish it, including any subscriber list you upload.

Feedback boards

If you switch on a feedback board, the ideas and votes on it come from your own users, who sign in with an email address to post. They keep the rights to what they write, and by posting they allow it to be shown on your board and roadmap. The board is yours to run: you decide whether ideas are reviewed before they appear, and you can edit, merge, close or delete any of them. You are responsible for moderating it and for what you leave on it, under section 5 like anything else you publish.

The people who post and vote are your users, and their addresses are held for you as your subscriber list is. You must honour a request from any of them to see or delete what the board holds about them; the board's account page lets them do both without asking. We may remove an idea, or switch a board off, where it breaches these terms or the law requires it.

Your readers' data: who is responsible for what

For the personal data of your subscribers, your feedback board's voters and the other people who use your changelog, you are the controller and we are your processor. We process that data only to provide the service to you — to hold your subscriber list and your board, to show your pages and to send your emails — on your instructions as expressed through your settings and these terms, and never for any purpose of our own. We keep it confidential, protect it with appropriate security measures, use only the sub-processors listed in our Privacy Policy (and tell you before adding one), help you answer requests from the people it concerns, and delete it when you delete it or your account, subject to backups being cycled out in the ordinary course.

You are responsible for having a lawful basis for that data, for the privacy policy you show your readers, and for answering their requests. If one of them writes to us instead, we pass the request to you.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the service available but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we offer no service level agreement unless we have agreed one with you in writing. We may change or discontinue features, and will give reasonable notice of a change that materially reduces what the paid plan does.

9. If Relnotely stops operating

This section is about the service as a whole coming to an end, which is a different thing from an individual account being suspended or terminated under section 10. If we decide to discontinue the service entirely, every account holder is given at least 30 days' notice by email before it shuts down, the same notice we give for a price change.

During that period you can retrieve what you have put in. There is no self-serve export today, so ask by writing to [email protected] and we will send you a copy of your entries, including drafts, and your subscriber list in a plain, machine-readable format before the service closes. Publishing keeps working for the whole of the notice period.

If you are on a paid subscription when the service is discontinued, we refund the unused part of your current billing period, worked out pro rata from the discontinuation date. This is the one case where we refund unused time, because we are the ones ending things rather than you; section 4 otherwise stands. A complimentary or otherwise unpaid account has nothing to refund, since nothing was charged.

If the business is sold or transferred rather than closed, these terms move with it: whoever takes it over takes on your account on the same terms, including any complimentary arrangement we have made with you in writing, and you are told by email who they are. You can delete your account at any time before or after a transfer.

10. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, that is used unlawfully, or where payment has failed and remains unpaid. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right.

11. Disclaimer

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, nor for lost profits, revenue, goodwill or data. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims and costs arising from content you publish through the service or from your breach of these terms.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will give notice by email or in the application before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service afterwards means you accept the updated terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria, Australia have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, without affecting any mandatory rights you have as a consumer in your country of residence.
